Starting Young
If you have read my story you would know that I started dance at quite a young age. Growing up, dancing has normally been the highlight of my day and it’s what puts a smile on my face. For example, on Friday nights people are typically always tired and flushed out by the whole week. But for me, it’s the time I have my solo lessons, and even though they can sometimes be pretty tiring, I love that being “the end of my week”.
One thing starting dance from a young age taught me is the importance of discipline. In the beginning, not all the classes I took were exciting. My dance journey started with ballet and I remember some lessons being a little boring and repetitive. But you have to keep working hard to get better at things. By starting young, I learnt good habits and to have a good attitude. It made me understand and appreciate how much hard work goes into the art of dance.
Dancing can be such a fun activity for young kids. You can get out of the house and breathe fresh air. It also keeps you fit and energised, teaches you coordination and musicality, as well as gives you a chance to meet new friends and an excuse to hang out with your friends.
I understand that dance may not be the sport for everyone, but I encourage people to have a smile on their face by doing what they love whether it be dancing, another sport, a hobby or even watching your favorite comedy. Yes, smile! It’s contagious!
